Research & Development Technician at a Pioneering Medical Device Company spun out of Oxford University

Job Description

The R&D Technician will be a key member of an experienced engineering team based in Oxford, developing a novel neurovascular implant and delivery wire to treat intracranial aneurysms. The purpose of this role is to build small medical device prototypes according to verbal and/or drawing specifications and support internal testing activities under supervision from R&D Engineers.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Fabricate small medical device prototypes according to verbal and/or drawing specifications. 
  • Maintain written records of materials used, procedures followed and inspection methodologies.
  • Identify process/quality defects and manufacturing challenges and report to R&D Engineers.
  • Take ownership for the organisation, maintenance, cleanliness and storage of all lab equipment, materials, components and surfaces.
  • Perform dimensional and visual inspections on prototypes.
  • Compile and analyse measurement and testing data results.
  • Support or perform internal testing of prototypes in accordance with written protocols and test procedures.

Qualifications

  • HND or degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 0-3 years of experience as an operator, assembler or technician (preferably medical device experience)
  • Knowledge of processes and/or machinery and equipment used in the development, production and inspection of medical devices
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices
  • High level of dexterity
  • Ability to assemble small parts using a microscope for prolonged periods
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawing specifications
  • Good written and oral communication
  • Attention to detail and a willingness to acquire new skills and learn on a daily basis is essential for this role

Working conditions

The individual is required to be on-site to fulfil their duties and responsibilities.

Physical requirements

This job requires the assembly of small components under a microscope for prolonged periods.
