EIT Health Spain picks Oxford Endovascular to compete in the European Health Catapult finals

EIT Health Spain has announced the winning start-ups who will compete in the medical technology category in the European Health Catapult Contest. The start-ups were chosen in a pitching contest. These seven finalists will join start-ups competing in the biotech and digihealth categories in a competition to determine the “best-of-the-best” during the EIT Health Summit in London in December.

The EIT Health European Health Catapult Medtech Semifinal in Spain involved three training days at the South Campus of IESE Business School in Barcelona. During the 9-11 October session (pictured above), the involved start-ups and SMEs have the chance to promote their ideas to potential investors and industrial partners, to improve their business models, to meet with mentors, and to meet colleagues from leading innovative health start-ups based around Europe.

The winners in the medtech category from Spain are:

BrainCare Oy is a Tampere University of Technology spin-off company founded in 2013 that seeks to redefine epilepsy patient diagnostics by giving neurologists unprecedented continuous EEG intelligence via a novel subdermal electrode that is capable of recording all clinical and subclinical seizure activity, thus modernising the archaic handwritten pen-and-paper seizure diaries.

enmodes GmbH was founded in 2011 as a company providing computational modeling and engineering services to biomedical device companies and is now developing RAS-Q®, which we expect to disrupt the respiratory assist market.

Oxford Endovascular Limited is in its final stage of development of a unique flow-diverter (OXIFLOW) for the minimally invasive treatment of intracranial aneurysms.

ProVerum Medical has developed a novel, minimally invasive treatment for patients with symptomatic Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, an enlargement of the prostate gland, causing difficulty with urination.

SpinDiag’s patented platform provides an easy-to-use, compact, automated and inexpensive point-of-care system for the screening for drug resistant pathogens. The device detects the most prevalent antibiotic resistances, and lab-grade results are delivered in less than 30 minutes from swab samples.

Surge-on Medical B.V. was founded on 2015 with the aim of providing innovative surgical tools that optimize and expand the operative performance of the surgeon to enhance the quality of care for the patient.

MOWOOT, a non-pharmacological, non-invasive solution to constipation without side-effects, is a class IIa medical device that emulates the scientifically proven massage techniques of professional therapists.
